In words
To reduce the risk of rockfall above the north portal of the Karawanken Tunnel, it was necessary to remove existing (static) rockfall protection fences and to build new (dynamic) rockfall protection fences with an energy absorption capacity of 500 and 2,000 kJ, respectively. Furthermore, rock netting including system nailing was erected to reduce surface erosion. A debris barrier with a height of over 4 m was erected in an exposed railing channel.
